Canvas Cosplay Partners with SINGER® as Cosplay Brand Ambassador

Award-winning cosplayer Philip Odango, known in the crafting community as Canvas Cosplay, partners with SINGER® Sewing Company as an official brand ambassador.

A professional creator and self-taught user of SINGER’s Heavy Duty sewing machine, Odango’s costumes have been featured in national publications such as The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Forbes Magazine and in industry media, including Cosplay Culture Magazine, Cosplay in America, Kotaku and Fashionably Geek. His award-winning Doctor Strange costume was officially featured by MARVEL, and he was commissioned to produce a replica prop for The Jimmy Kimmel Show. A seasoned cosplay competition champion, his most recent cosplay of Maui from Disney’s Moana placed successfully at the Crown Championships of Cosplay in Chicago and will be featured at Disney’s D23 Expo in Anaheim, California next month.

While speaking at fan conventions, Odango shares his passion in making cosplay more accessible and inclusive for those just starting in the hobby and for those with limited means. "Cosplay can be a very expensive hobby, and some turn away because they don't have the budget for high-priced fabrics or sewing machines," says Odango. A resourceful artist, he bought his SINGER sewing machine two years ago and went on YouTube to teach himself how to sew. He has since produced over 30 costumes, and has been a guest and cosplay contest judge at conventions around the world.

"SINGER has been looking to break into the Cosplay community for some time now," says Sarah E. Garringer, Internet Marketing Specialist for SVP Worldwide, "and we are excited to have Canvas Cosplay leading the charge for us,”

“Cosplay is a vehicle for creative self-expression for everyone,” says Odango, “and I hope to continue to advocate for and empower cosplayers on behalf of SINGER’s legacy of quality and value.”
