Philip Odango is an accomplished artist, designer, producer, director and actor. With over a decade of experience in directing and producing over two dozen gala and stage productions, he is known for his award-winning costume work with his company Canvas Cosplay. He has appeared as an invited guest, costume contest judge and panelist, including San Diego Comic Con, Disney’s D23 Expo, New York Comic Con, Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), Dragon Con, Rose City Comic Con and HawaiiCon. He recently judged the The Cosplay Authority Global Challenge at AsiaPOP Comicon in Manila, one of the world’s prestigious cosplay competitions with a grand prize of $10,000 USD, one of the largest cash prizes in the world for cosplay.
His costumes have been featured in national publications such as The New York Times, The Chicago Tribune, Forbes Magazine and in industry media, including Cosplay Culture Magazine, Cosplay in America, Kotaku and Fashionably Geek. His award-winning Doctor Strange costume was officially featured by MARVEL, and he was commissioned to produce a replica prop for The Jimmy Kimmel Show. A seasoned cosplay competition champion, his most recent cosplay of Maui from Disney’s Moana won at the Crown Championships of Cosplay in Chicago, and is recognized by Disney’s head of animation of Moana as “The REAL Maui”.
As an educator, official SINGER® Brand Ambassador, and member of the Public Relations Society of America, Philip is highly-sought for his panels on sewing, budget cosplay, and marketing and public relations, and strives to empower cosplayers worldwide to expand their visibility and potential.
